the sound mixing in this game? The characters sound like they're whispering while the background music is blaring. Fine whatever, I'll just do my own mixing in the options... oh wait, it doesn't exist. The options literally have like, a hundred settings, and they don't put in background music/voice volume etc?

I believe that the Voice Actors voiced their lines from home using their own equipment during the pandemic.

True... but audio can be mixed, eq'd, compressed, mastered etc long after it's recorded, if doesn't matter if the VAs recorded it in their closets, they're not at fault. This was such a weird oversight by whoever made the game (Atlus?) and it's really aggravating.

The VA is good as usual and yet their dialogue is being drowned out by the background music, without the settings even offering the chance for the player to adjust it themselves.

I was all set to praise this game, as it looks to be really great otherwise

I didn't notice, but I've been playing with Japanese voices and maybe that's different?

Apparently, during the making of MGS Twin Snakes, they needed all new audio because if they brought the original stuff up to modern standards, you could make out the sound of traffic outside the recording studio lol

Depending on how shoddy the original recordings came out, they may only be able to do so much with it

Huh, others have had the exact same complaint so at least I'm not alone, it really is an issue. Wish they'd patched in slider options, it's been a year. There was no reason to rush it like that.

Besides that complaint, the game has really captivated me. I was hesitant about buying it but now that it's on ps plus, I can finally try it and it turns out it's actually a real persona game, not a dynasty warriors reskin like breath of the wild's dynasty warriors was.

There's an actual plot, and exploring, and it literally feels just like an expansion to persona 5 with a different battle system. It's not just a giant "pick a location on the world map and fight hordes of enemies" game like the last dynasty warriors reskin I tried.

Yeah playing the battles like a Warriors game will get you destroyed which tripped up so many people on the Strikers boards lol.

Damn that's actually interesting. To think that was the reason for the subtle inflection changes in the voice acting.

It's a really good game. I've never played a Persona game before and just tried this out cause it was on PS+. I don't even like Musou games. This is my favourite one I've ever played, and while I never previously had any interest in Persona games, I'll definitely play P5R at some point after this.

I think I'm getting better at the combat but time will tell. There's way too many party members now and I don't know who to choose, I wish they would let us switch out one of the 3 party members in the midst of combat. It's way too hectic to control both them and joker

I want to play it so bad, but I need to finish Persona 5 Royal first.

If youre going into fights not knowing enemy weaknesses, try to keep your party balanced in terms of elemental coverage, then just focus on one enemy/weakness at a time and dont worry about managing the whole party.

Joker pretty much have all elemental weaknesses covered anyway, unless you fuck up in that regard. Being able to double team the boss is nice, but I feel like it's never much of an issue, especially after Necronomicon gets the ability to give you SP recovery.

Yusuke in particular is nearly inaudible a lot of the time

played through the game on Hard and it was kinda a bad idea. Bosses became SP gated single move spam battles, was my only complaint about the game, really. Other than the usual Warriors complaints that are GREATLY improved otherwise in this title.

You do want to occasionally switch your parties around plus you want to make sure you fuse new persona, also learn every characters Class Art.

Make a mental note of the square, square, square, triangle combo because you can get a free attack/spell out of it without using HP or SP.

it's more of an ARPG than a Musou tbh

It is structured more like Persona 5, with smaller scale warriors combat for encounters in the dungeons. Gives it much more focus and and momentum than Warriors games usually have which is absolutely a good thing.

It's definitely a warriors game, just a very different approach to it.

You don't even really want to play it like a full on ARPG either. There may be some situations where you'll be ok but most of the time you want to play it like Persona 5.

Even more so if you decide to play it on Merciless in NG+.

The sound mixing issue really only happens in the beginning, which is strange. I finished the game last week finally, and the dialogue was completely normal for the last like 75% of the game. Except when characters talk during battle, I always had trouble understanding what they were saying and was too busy to read the subtitles.

No its not, if you play it like a Warriors game you will get destroyed and its not even structured the same.

I don't see what the fundamental difference is between P5S and Fire Emblem Warriors that makes them different genres of games.

As games they're vastly different, but so is Final Fantlasy 7 and Final Fantasy 13.

I never said different genres but it plays like a mixture of ARPG and turn based while Warriors is hack and slash RPG with taking over bases and such with endless waves of enemies which P5S doesnt have.
