I definitely didn't see the twist at the end with Christian Bale having a twin. I enjoy the style of the "whodunit" being revealed up front, with the "howdunit" being the crux of the story.

I recommend it.

It's a great movie.

I just wish they did more with Falon throughout the film.

I know the fact he stayed out of the way and never did anything was 100% relevant to the plot but it made the reveal less interesting. I think they could have done it better.

Yeah even Hugh didn't know.
I think the only person that knew was Alfred.

That was the whole point of the movie....That was "The Turn" - "The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary.".

I originally didn't like that it went full sci-fi with the cloning machine, but I've grown to appreciate it more. I think the theme they were going for was that Bale was a legit more talented magician and sort of "won" in the end, even though Hugh went to greater lengths and essentially cheated by gong to Tesla.

Well the novel goes into even weirder territory (book spoilers), but the sci-fi-aspect kinda makes poetic sense - in that in the novel their rivalry happens due to the fact that Angier tries to make an illusion appear real - he conducts "a seance" for Borden's family - and this angers Borden, who knows it to be an illusion, and thus plans to disrupt a future seance, however during this, a scuffle happens and Borden pushes over Angier's wife and causes a miscarriage and a lifetime of rivalry. Therefore, in the end Angier's "best trick" happens because he makes the "real" seem like an illusion in the "Disappearing man", whereas he began as a magician who tried to make an illusion seem "real", as in the seance.
