It's really not.

None of the characters are even likable any more, like Maggie.

I stopped during the Negan arc.

Felt so samey after a while. They get a chance to kill Negan. It fails. They have a cheap looking gunfight. Repeat.

The hype for him as a villain was huge beforehand too lol

I dropped The Walking Dead halfway into Season 6. Them finding out Eugune was a stupid liar was the tipping point. Nicholas' circumstances of death was pretty much them snapping their fingers at you, yelling "Hey! This is nothing more than madness porn! Why are you watching this trash? Stop watching!" I still didn't listen. Just randomly dropped it a few episodes later in the episode Jesus debuted.

Maggie is such a wtf character now

She abandoned Hilltop when it needed her most

then comes back for literally no reason

Says she has a new group, who nearly all die and no one cares

Then just kinda hangs around being bitchy

it's a mess

When they spent 27 and a half years on that farm with a "shocking" reveal that Ray Charles could see coming(both of them, actually).

Or that time they filmed Michael Burnham from Star Trek Discovery in a childish way to make it look like she was churning the trout in that box.

Or when they decided to never do anything with Daryl, because they know he's everyone's favorite and their terrified of doing anything to fuck with the only draw they have left.

Or when they specifically told Chandler Riggs that they wouldn't be killing him off, and then proceeded to kill him off after he bought a house and signed up to take college courses right near where they film the show.

Yes, I also tapped out after Negan arrived. I think the show went downhill during the second season on the farm though.

The moralistic whining in the earlier seasons really turned me off, but since generally enjoy apocalyptic fiction a lot, I kept watching hoping it would get better and characters would learn to be a little more pragmatic and a little less dramatic.

It did for a while after season 3, when all the useless characters were either killed (Lori, Andrea) or learned to git good (Glenn, Carl). It remained good imo until the Negan saga. Negan himself wasn't a crappy character, but they dragged it on for so fucking long that it just became boring to watch. The dragging out wasnt even subtle anymore when most of the episodes just became scenes of people walking and Negan talking very very slowly.

Im still watching, but it got increasingly more boring as characters you care about early on are killed or become violent psychos. I dont really care about any of the current cast. Even if I did, Princess is dragging the current season WAY down.

The Governor in the show was kind of stupid compared to The Governor in the comic

Comic Governor: Attacks the Prison out of blind rage and a desire for revenge after Michonne tortures and mutilates him.

Show Governor: Wants to live in the Prison because of how secure it is against walkers, so he destroys it with a tank, thus robbing it of its purpose.

Aaron, Yumiko, Gabriel, Ezekiel and Carol are likable.

Aaron is the only one of those who has actually had an interesting character arc and progression since his introduction.

Everyone else is either kinda meh like Yumiko or gradually gets worse as time goes by like Carol.

Been a long time since I've seen the show, but from what I remember, at that point the Governor was obsessed with vengeance, especially against Rick. So much even that it blinded him from all the sensible reasons to attack the prison.

Yeah, that's mostly why I quit watching the show. They tried to humanize the Governor. I wish people would stop doing this in adaptations. The Governor was entertaining because he was an unrepentant, inexplicable piece of shit. He was a monster. He didn't need moments of humanity and they didn't need to ruin Andrea by making her team up with him.

Ive always maintained that both the show and the comic went downhill once Negan was introduced. I liked everything up to his initial introduction and epic Lucille scene. Everything after was meh. I stopped watching the show when they defeated Negan. I stopped reading the comic midway through the next arc I believe. The comic right after where Rick accidentally killed Sherry. The one where Negan defended Rick for that. That was the last comic I read.

Eh, I didn't really mind that he had moments of humanity. In the show it probably worked better than if they turned him into a stereotypical comic book villain (literally, in this case). Overally he was still an evil piece of shit, but from a televisual storytelling point of view, I think it was more interesting that there was a point where he could've chosen to walk away from the past and build a new life. Instead he chose to throw it all away for the sake of vengeance.

Yeah, but comic governor was a parody of a supervillain ffs.

Just like Kirkman went around asking people 'what's the most evil thing someone can do in a zombie Apocalypse' and that was the character.

At least the show one looked like he could be deceivingly evil and spoke like a good man who could trick a bunch of people.

TWD show just drags everything on way too long. I blasted through all of the comic in about 2 weeks, and it feels like there's just way less bullshit.

The comic is also far more visceral at times

It was when Glenn died. But my interest was already waning for a while before that. The show just dragged on far too long. They were pulling in huge viewer numbers and wanting to keep it going for as long as possible and that shot themselves in the foot.
