I do remember hearing that some inspiration came from Outer Limits. I get the impression that Cameron just compiled a bunch of episodes from Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, and Night Gallery involving androids, sat down, watched them, and used what he saw as inspiration for his film. The Terminator itself is a pretty standard stop-motion skeleton (like Jason & The Argonauts stuff) except it's shiney. Pretty damn genius movie. The timeloop is classic, and with the subtle messiah themes, that soundtrack, the slasher movie moments, makes for one of the most enjoyable B-movies of its day. I mean they just did not fucking get what was so great about the first 2. They all tried hard though. I only like them because T2 was is so good, really.
