Chargers should have known better than to try playing the Raiders in a pseudo playoff game so soon after Madden died.

okay why

When you are a multi-billion dollar industry hyper-focused on making as much money as possible, you do anything to maximize profits.

Aside from the fact that what seems was about 90% of the primetime games this year were decided by 10-points or less, today's games were sus. An awful Steelers team, but a top 3 largest fanbase, wins in OT to make the playoffs. Oh and right after the media has been hyping Big Ben's "majestic send-off".

A top 5/6 largest fanbase 49ers team comes back to win in OT to make the playoffs. More viewership, more dolla dolla bills y'all.

And yes, adding the gambling element doesn't help.

Yeah but were there like...calls in those games you think went the wrong way?

The 49ers and the Saints also have by most sources equally large fan bases and the Rams losing means that SoFi stadium is likely going to get fewer games in the playoffs. You think the NFL wouldn't love games being there over Raymond James stadium?

You think they'd be rigging the game that's going on right now against the Raiders with how much the NFL hates that team.

Didn't watch extensively to say anything about the calls. In the primetime games this year, for sure. The NFL has always been like that though.

And it doesn't matter where the games are played. That's not where the money is. It's eyes on TV sets. That sells ads. That sells sponsorships. More importantly, that sells future TV contracts during negotiation time.

Of course also leads to the merchandise and ticket sales. Tickets are going to sell no matter what.

Just as long as the Rams lost, I don't care what else happened.

Fuck Stan Kroenke.

I mean Giants have two Super Bowls in last 14 years....

Since 2000, a New York team has been in the playoffs 11 years. 13 if you include the Bills.

And hell, they still pull in massive numbers. Like the WWE, you can't have the same matches, storylines, and champions all the time or ratings tank.

The NFL is trying to grow the LA market though. The more playoff games for the Rams and Chargers the better.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be shocked if a scandal came out that refs were rigging games for Vegas bets like what happened in the NBA with the one ref. I just think that most of the larger conspiracies about games being fixed for some narrative purpose are just "choose the results you don't like and build a narrative for why the NFL would prefer that".
