Ive been wanting to get a tablet to use as a switch of sorts for my entertainment center. Can chrome books do that?

The 10e is an ARM powered device so you won't be able to run anything but Chrome OS on it.

A full Linux desktop environment can be used but only as chroot.

Anyway, as with any Android device, I fully recommend installing F-Droid.

It's a free and open software that has many wonderful features, such as the much needed Adaway to kill off all advertisements.

As luck would have it, I got one (and a wireless keyboard) for Xmas.

Don't really have much use for it but tempted anyway, might make a good gift or something this year.

Can you run emulators, pair controllers and dl games from steam on this?

I've never owned a tablet. What do people generally use them for? What would this be good for?

It has Bluetooth 4.2, so yeah, pairing a controller should be fluffy cake.

Emulation would be Retroarch.

As with use of Steam, very doubtful.

You could add something like a remote viewer, but I don't see that as a good gaming experience.

Easy on the eyes due to a much larger screen.

Other than that, not all too much is different from owning a nice phone.

I see, thanks... I already own a laptop, I don't think I need one tbh, maybe as some people itt are pointing out, it'd make a nice gift.

SwiftKey is a personal favorite of mine.

File Manager is especially great if you have any type of network sharing at your home.

DriveSync is terrific as well if you have multiple devices. I use this for cloud sharing all my game saves.

And of course Vanced for YouTube.

Most important thing is to be rid of all advertisements on a device.

Anyway, as far as gaming, just rifle through Editor's Choices at the Google Store or watch a crappy current video of the best games available. :)

Roku Channel, Plex, Samsung TV, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi can all be used for free, but with ads of course.

Many good kids channels and shows on them though.

I use Opera or their app for these.

I bought one for my mom, who's birthday is on the 19th, and two others for my neighbors, which I'll probably wait until Christmas for them.

Thanks for this TC, I bought two, one for myself and one for my nephew.

Developer mode lets you install applications (apk files) that are not currently available at the Google Store.

Such as F-Droid or perhaps reverting to an older release of something that became broken when updated (like Imgur for example).

It's a needed feature to have.

Chromebook are not costly. Impressive.
