This isn't just about McD's but all jobs. The outgoing number of people retiring from jobs will be greater than new people getting jobs. It is going to be huge in the trucking industry for one.

For real. My grandpa with no highschool diploma got to retire at 55. I, on the otherhand,will probably never be able to retire at all. But even if I could fix my life around, the only why my ass is "retiring early" is by the end of a noose or the end of a barrell.

I thought capitalism is good, and that freedom to choose what you do is part of what makes America great. Does this include the freedom not to slave for a burger joint who gives no shit about their employees? Of course the corporate interests think not.

When working for a place like this, you have two choices with the way life has inflated:

• Work a low wage job and have no real money to get by
• Don't work a low wage job and have no real money to get by

the price of a Big Mac combo(or any food) wouldnt need to increase with higher wages if McDonalds was willing to take a hit on their profit marginbut they arent.

I know a dude who worked overnights at a hotel until he was 83. He had to stop working after a bad fall.

Good. I'm hoping more and more workers will quit or retire.

Nearly a decade ago a detailed analysis showed that simply raising the price of each item by 17 cents would double employee wages and keep the profit margin the same. Probably a bit higher now but that wouldn't even be noticable

i dont get how that would be possible. If the wage were to be raised from $10 to $15 per hour, then you would need to have been selling at least 30 big macs per hour per employee for the 17 cent to make a difference.

McDonald's CEO makes 10 million a year, but sure, there's no possible way they can pay their workers $3 more per hour without making the Big Mac $15 (even though Denmark McDonald's employees make twice that amount and the food only costs 10 cents more)

you do realize that the stuff to make a Big Mac only costs McDonalds about 10% of what they charge for one right? Everything in fast food is sold at a huge markup so the franchise owners can make money(and give a percent of that to McDonalds corporate).

I think the idea is that you raise every item by 17 cents, or divy it out in a way that the increase on all items averages 17 cents.

That'd have been less than 60 cents of an increase for a value meal and I wouldn't notice that personally.

Seems like "don't stay in low hourly wage jobs/start a business/start a side hustle/learn a trade/go to college/try to retire early/ really is catching up the to the" industry." like we obviously need these people to do these jobs but the world told everyone to gtfo so shits crumbling. Can't have the precious system where service and hospitality workers never gain wealth and simultaneously tell them to leave.

It's funny how workers got threatened with automation for years, but now when there's a supposed "labor shortage", none of these businesses know how to handle it.

Then those businesses found out how much it would cost to get robots to do those jobs and the upkeep costs of said robots they would have to cut into there billions

I work at chick fil a and when people mention the teenager bs I'm like dude everyone working right now is over 20 ( I work 7am to 3pm) furthermore, would you appreciate visiting a restaurant exclusively ran by minors?

This is sad, but the they I referred to was actually one of my supervisors. That work with me. Obviously making more than me. Not a customer. This is a joke industry, which is why I refuse to get upset over things anymore. I make 15.10 at full time in fast food as a non leader. This is considered competitive. I'm just incredibly lucky I have a fixed rate mortgage, if I was at the mercy of the rental market I'd be terrified. I got lucky.

you should check out cooking in nursing homes, at my job we start people with 0 experience at $16-18/hr and most of the food is pretty easy to cook(and theres a recipe for everything)

if you can handle working in fast food you could handle a nursing home kitchen pretty easy

If you live near a big city, you could make a lot more in a local restaurant. if you dont, that may be a good career.

Same around here. I got an egg mcmuffin meal with small orange juice and it came to $9. I could get a whole chicken or pork roast for less than that.
