Like with the other variants I'd here far long reached stories about a long lost third removed cousin or what ever caught it.

But with Omnicron, I've had a significant numbers of friends and family all over country catch it.

Like at this point I already know Omnicron doesn't make you lose taste and smell, but instead gives you night sweats and a very scratchy throat.

This new variant is crazy how everyone is getting it.

I work for a company that has over a dozen branches. Over the course of the last 2 days, weve had case confirmation emails sent from 6 branches. And weve never not had mask mandates, people tasked with cleaning all throughout the day as well. Scary stuff.

It's almost like it's the most transmissible variant to date, highly resistant to the vaccine, and second only to measles for overall most contagious virus in human history.

Wouldn't it be funny if omnicron is what did covid19 in. Everyone catches it and we become immune to the crazy number of mutated spikes it has. Then bam, world reaches herd immunity xD.

It is the fastest spreading virus in human history. I play fantasy basketball, so I had a front row seat to watch it rip through the almost fully vaxxed NBA, exponentially worse than anything last year. Once I saw that, I knew it would shatter records

Well this is how viruses historically are defeated. Nature is probably our best bet like it often is.

the story with omicron is that its way more contagious but not as deadly. thats goodish i guess, but still bad if you're old, immunocompromised, or especially not vacinated.

i think people have gotten lax with how they protect themselves with the virus. stores aren't closed any more, people aren't wearing 2 masks, and folks are hanging out like normal because they're vaccinated.

but omicron doesn't seem to care.

This is not remotely true. Thanks for spreading disinformation.

Yep people have definitely gotten lax. So many gatherings happened for Christmas and New Years. My ex just got her vaccine in December because her job is making them. And now she's like "I'm vaccinated so why should I be worried about covid?" And I know a lot of others have her same mindset.

I feel like half my friends in my regular gaming circle have had their ass kicked by COVID recently. Have a friend who is a fit Marine officer currently suffering it.

I got tested positive for it yesterday. It's the first time I have been sick since this whole thing started.

The contagiousness of these new variants is no joke.

i mean shes not wrong per se... if she got omicron she'll have very mild symptoms, if at all, and extremely unlikely to wind up in a hospital, die, etc. which is fine. we don't lose our mind getting a cold or whatever, cuz we know we'll recover fine.

but she might spread it... so i mean if shes sure everyone around her is vaccinated, then yeah its whatever.

but dont go around to a nursing home and hugging old people and kissing babies and shit.

Yeah, I'm mostly worried about her spreading it, since she already got covid once in 2020 because she was hanging out with people like normal. She could give it to me, or our son

Yeah like half of my extended family has it and a lot of my friends

Somehow I'm still avoiding it, but I feel like it's inevitable
