I read that you don't need a PC to use it, but does is need one for optimum performance. I have a laptop to use for downloading games off steam if need be, but I don't have a gaming PC.

Works just fine without one. If you had a powerful PC, playing games off SteamVR would definitely be the better choice graphically and performance wise, but hey, the Quest 2 is surprisingly robust and capable on its own.

Its a standalone unit with its own processor.

But you can use it basically as a PC based unit via an expensive link cable (no clue if you can use regular usb c or whatever) that basically makes it a vr monitor while your pc does the graphics processing. But I hear misxed reviews on how weell that works. I have no firsthand knowledge cause the mixed eviews turn me off to actually trying it

You can definitely use a regular USB-C cable that you get off amazon for five bucks and it works amazingly. Additionally, if you have a good wifi setup in your house, you can also use it to wirelessly connect to your PC VR library, which also works way, way, *way* better than you'd think. It's nearly perfect in all but the most fringe cases that require extreme precision like Eleven Table Tennis or something.

many of the games on the oculus store will run stand-alone, no PC required to play them. if you're buying the games on steam you're not buying the stand-alone versions, you have to run them off a pc.

you dont need oculus brand link cable, look on amazon and you can find a much cheaper USB-C cable that'll work just fine for it. once you've got one it'll play PCVR games as well as any other VR headset, the limiting factor then is your PC.

the best thing about PCVR on the quest 2 is you can get virtual desktop (or use airlink though its still crap) to stream games from your pc to the headset over your wifi. makes the quest 2 the only truly wireless PCVR setup.

How big are the games? If I was to get one(not going to soon, just thinking about it), should I splurge for the 400$ model, or save a hundred dollars and get the 128GB version? Also, anyone have any experience using VR with glasses?

Some of the games can get decently big, but I'm a notorious cheapass and got the 128GB version. Haven't come close to running into any problems yet, and while I'm certain to eventually, I probably don't need like thirty different games installed at the same time, so eh. VR games can be pricey, too, so that helps limit the space you use. Also keep in mind that the 128GB version used to cost $400, so hey.

I'm blind as a bat without glasses. Also been using VR for a while; bought a Vive within a few minutes of the sales first going up. The Vive was awful to use with glasses and I both scratched my Vive and my glasses using it. The Oculus Quest 2 comes with a glasses spacer that I use and it is much nicer to use glasses with it. The biggest obstacle is one you might not expect; your glasses can fog up *really* easily depending on different factors. I use a hair dryer on my glasses and headset lenses before I start playing so it doesn't happen rip

might as well throw up a referral link on the off chance someone uses it so we both get free zucc bux

i bought the cheapo 64GB model when it launched and have had no real issues with storage, part of that is because i dont feel the need to have a bunch of games on it at a time, and part of that is because i got it mostly for PCVR. plus, most VR games just aren't that big. get the standard model unless you really have no impulse control and have to be able to swap between two dozen games.

as for glasses, i dont usually wear them but like the above poster said they come with a glasses spacer that does help. personally i picked up a "facial interface" from vrcover, they make these extra plush ones with a fake leather that are extra cushioned so you end up with even more space between the lenses then you would if you used the glasses spacer insert. plus the foam mounts on a vented plastic peace that plugs into the quest so you get good airflow which helps reduce condensation buildup.

oh, when you get tired of the strap, because everyone does, pick up a halo style strap.

i've had this one for months and love it.

I'm way too wary of wireless models because of how terrible they were in the first gen, but at this point the quest 2 probably blows my old Oculus DK2 dev kit version out of the water.

Thanks for the response guys, like I said, I probably won't run out to get one, but I have a gift card from last Christmas burning a hole in my pocket, and I've been trying to think of something I'd like to use it on. Are there any good space flight combat games, ala Tie Fighter that works with the Quest 2? I used to play the hell out of that game on my 486 back in the day.
