If you're using it to hide load times, that's fine, but RDR2 loaded the entire map when it started up and Arthur Morgan still walked like a 90-year-old with hip dysplasia. And his little horse too.

Yeah, in the age of fast loading those kinds of sequences should hopefully be disappearing. Either make the conversation play out in normal gameplay or make it a cutscene since it already pretty much is one.

Just make a regular loading screen and let us play like, arkanoid or something while we wait. :P

Someone holds the copyright to loading screen minigames so that's why it isn't done. The closest I've seen is the move practice in Bayonetta.

Move practice in Bayonetta is great.

What's also neat for me is games that have text to read, either hints or worldbuilding facts that you can cycle through on the loading screen.

Being able to read to pass the time is so much better than sitting on pins and needles waiting for the character to finish the walking animation

Because otherwise, if I need to pull out my phone to browse while playing a video game, that's a huge huge red flag

Because the copyright/patent system is dumb as fuck.

Hell I'm surprised the concept of a loading screen is copyrighted in and of itself.

Or that some greedy game company doesn't use loading screens as an opportunity to advertise stuff and promote brands

They used to have samples of their arcade games for the loading screens in their ps1 games

Has anyone actually copyrighted/patented the copyright/patent system? If so, I'd like to do that and use it to put an end to stupid-ass copyrighting/patenting restrictions on shit like this.

It loaded a low def version of the map, which is constantly refreshing assets. Making yer boy as slow as molasses in winter helps hide the loading.

This is what really kills me. I don't majorly mind when there's conversation happening, but they run out of conversation halfway through.

Games already do this. Look at PSO2.
