I liked the series because I mistook Link for Robin Hood. (Lincoln green, bow and arrow, sword, etc.) It wasn't until maybe four or five years ago that I found out he was inspired by Peter Pan. Nintendo has Mario AND Kirby to be cutesy. Why does that need to spill over into Legend of Zelda? Why can't they have more serious games? It's not like Ocarina of Time was dark and gritty. It just simply had an adventure hero, looking like an adventure hero, doing adventure hero things. A goofy expression here or there, something like the singing frogs or the guard wearing the fox mask, that's as cartoony as Legend of Zelda needs to be. ... Copied to Clipboard!

The gameplay is fun. I probably still would've liked the earlier games if I had gotten the reference. But I still don't see why Legend of Zelda can't be serious in its presentation. Even Disney has some works that aren't "draw smiley faces on clouds" cute. Hell, by this point, I'm sure that less than half of their animated films fit that level of cuteness. ...
