Reed is a scientist. Stretchiness is a stoner or surfer dude power. His personality is at odds with his gimmick.

Let's say that Reed isn't a stuffy scientist. He gives a lecture wearing a Hawaiian shirt. He wants to be his students' pal. He doesn't go home and work on formulas, he watches Game of Thrones and It's Always Sunny and has a beer. That works to subvert expectations and aligns his personality with his power.

But his wife still wants to be with Black Panther and Namor. I can't see anyone wanting to be the cuckolded leader of a superhero team.
