Like the royal guards in Britain or the Marines by the White House.

I mean back when countries weren't so stable and you had people willing to attempt assassinations every few months, sure... You're literally laying your life to guard an important person; but today...? They're just glorified doormen, opening doors and walking back and forth. Why is that considered an honor? Wouldn't it be more honorable to serve people who need help?
