Dogs can drink beer and if they have a huge amount they will get drunk and eventually go to sleep like any human.

They don't process alcohol as well as we do but its not as poisonous as chocolate and some liqueur in chocolates is an exacerbating factor I guess but its definitely not the major concern.

Hydrogen peroxide is an extremely common method to get dogs to puke especially after eating chocolate but if the dogs are already puking you don't need to do that.

Not sure. It's 6 am here. I dont remember exactly when my sister gets up, but I'm pretty sure it would be by now. I guess she probably would have contacted me if something happened. On a normal day my parents are not up for a few more hours. Like 8 or 9

That's the kind of thing that'd be met with "there's no excuse for this" rather than actual reading, so let me spell it out as a tl;dr: @pikachupwnage , the TC is not the one who owns or cares for these dogs, he's simply passing on what a family member is telling him is happening elsewhere.

Talked to my sister finally at her job. Dogs are supposedly OK. My parents are still trying to sleep. It's 10 am, but they were up all night I think. I dont know the details.

actually most dogs are fine with it, but there are a few breeds where chocolate is very dangerous so vets tend to just say chocolate = bad for all dogs just to be safe because people are morons

I just did a quick Google and it seems to confirm what I thought that its size not breed.

If it isn't dark chocolate the toxicity rate is like a half ounce per lb of bodyweight. So a big dog would need a lot of chocolate for it to be a real issue at all. Like typically you aren't gonna have enough chocolate where an 80lb dog is gonna even have a chance at enough chocolate to poison it, let alone a 140 or 200lb dog.

They are out of the danger zone. CE tends to assume the worst. I don't really blame them though because everyone has some horror story from a friend or cousin about someone's dog that ate too much chocolate, so it happens. Maybe don't scold your parents next time and just try yo troubleshoot factors, like "Well, how much of the chocolate do you think they ate?". Make sure they have an idea of how much the dogs weigh. Weigh them yourself since you're over there, just weigh yourself, then pick up the dog and re-weigh yourself and find out the difference.

Yeah this is bullshit. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs, it's a matter of their weight on how much they can consume. Sure, that means some dogs are more susceptible by breed, but a St Bernard could eat enough chocolate to kill itself still provided there was enough lying around.
