And what happens if he just refuses to stand down?

Then he's trespassing and he gets ejected from the military base.

You don't know what you're talking about.

It is one thing to attack people in another country to promote the interests of your own. It is another to expect them to be entirely okay with bombing their own people, without dissent.

Just the fact that you would say they would "definitely" do it because it is "literally their job" demonstrates how out of touch you are. If you tell soldiers to attack their home states, the likely response you'll get is "Shit, no."
I like how you're disagreeing with me but not the person I originally replied to, who basically said the same thing lol

And if you tell soldiers to do that without provocation, sure. But if you tell soldiers to engage violent enemy combatants, who just happen to live in those states, they'd likely be fine with that. Nobody's talking about them indiscriminately dropping bombs on their home towns smh. That's a strawman you made up.

In the sense of the states seceeding and geographical lines being drawn? No.

There will likely be sectarian violence that will tacitly sanctioned by those in power though. This is in fact already happening to a degree. When you compare the charges and sentences against social or racial justice protestors against those recieved by people who were attempting a coup on Jan 6 you'll notice a staggering difference.

Also look at the treatment by police that hard right organizations like patriot prayer, patriot front, and the proud boys recieve vs how the police respond BLM or other more left leaning groups.

Question that was asked "do you think soldiers from southern states would drop bombs on their own people?" Your answer: "If they're a threat to the US. Definitely. That is literally their job."

The proposed scenario is apparently a violent civil war between the North vs South, not just small, independent groups of terrorists.

If there were a Civil War declared between factions of the states, there would be a schism in the military. Trusting that the military would be totally loyal to the federal government in that situation is naive, at best.

Military personnel wouldn't be any more immune to divide loyalties in that situation than anyone.

In a factionist civil war, for the troops who come from the southern states to side with the northern government, or vice versa, then that would necessitate they be willing to attack the citizens of their home states. Because it is those people who would make up whatever local armed forces, industries, and civilian leadership in the secessionist states.

And I'm telling you that isnt something you can reasonably expect from them.

Now, if your position is not that troops from secessionist states, presumably the south, wouldn't have a problem attacking their home states, by all means correct my understanding of your point.

But here's the thing...

The chain of command will eventually get to a spot where everyone is on the same side, and could/would easily shut down whatever attempt the "defectors" make.

You'll then basically have men with guns fighting men with guns, tanks, planes, and full control of most tactical weaponry.

when a group is unhappy they protest. I'd prefer they protest against our leaders than burning down local businesses and murdering civilians

There were literally people in the Capitol ON FILM saying they were there to stop the certification of election results.

That's a little bit more than just a protest.

LOL, bullshit. That wasn't a protest, that was a mob that turned the Capitol into a medieval battle scene like something straight out of Eastern Europe in order to install Trump as Dear Leader. Their goal was to literally stop the certification of election results, get to the VP (who they had a gallows outside for) and the Democratic lawmakers to do God knows what to if they got a hold of them.

Coup: a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government.

Their goal on Jan 6th was the prevention of the certification of the electoral college so that Trump could be installed as president. What they did fits the definition of a coup. Sedition is a crime punishable by up to 20 years in civilian court and death under the UCMJ.

I mean that's really how most civil wars happen. Stuff like the War of the Roses or the American Civil War are atypical of most civil wars. More often throughout history when countries break apart it looks more Syria, or the Warlords period of China (1916-1928).
