She's an alcoholic. She's a conspiracy theorist. She's antivax. She refused a ventilator because her Q Anon buddies told her it was the ventilators that kill people. My cousin went to the hospital to see her every day. He couldn't be in the room with her, but he would see her through the window. And he has run errands for her every day since she's been home. Now his phone got shut off and she's refusing to help him. (You can't have a personal servant if you can't summon them!)

This woman would survive an atomic bomb drop and steal milk from a starving cat.

I feel bad for your cousin. Its hard to admit that you need to let family go. Especially when they guilt trip you.

His loyalty to blood relatives is ironclad and she knows it.

If that's a political statement, about 60% of my family are conservatives. Most of them believe in working, repaying debts, and something resembling basic humanity.

They're not all monsters.

There's a difference between being conservative / right-leaning, or even libertarian, vs being a far-right (/ "alt-right" / whatever) asshole.

I have an uncle who became a Qanon guy during the pandemic. He is a very smart guy (nucleaur engineer) and a person I used to respect a lot because he had very good insights for many things. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, he started slowly drifting to becoming a Qanon and is now just posting a bunch of badshit crazy things on his facebook and getting into constant fights with almost everyone. What was once a steady guy is now a guy who unironically calls others cucks and npc's while spewing out conspiracy theories that always leans positively for the right side of politics.

Conversely, I also had an Uncle (my dad side had like 10 kids) who used to lean heavily towards the right in politics. He's an MD at a hospital and makes more money than i could ever in my life. He started shifting in his politics when he realizes just how people on his side started being very negligent in terms of taking covid seriously, to the point where they even accused him of being an actor and not a real doctor. It was basically a wake up call for him just how stupid people on his side handling this mess, that he just couldn't associate with being a Republican anymore. I don't think he's a democrat, but he's actively anti-Trump now.

I'm sorry. That's rough. It's crazy how even educated and intelligent people can be taken in by things. I'm glad your MD uncle doesn't want any part of that.

My aunt wasn't corrupted by this nonsense. She has been an utterly selfish human being for decades. If anything, she saw Q Anon as an opportunity to be exceptionally hateful and entitled and latched onto it.

I only mention my two uncles here because they made the biggest changes I've seen this pandemic, everyone else in my family roughly still has the same core beliefs and all that.

Also sucks about your aunt, I'm guessing the Qanon movement just helped empower her and her beliefs.

I think she'd be much the same person without them. She wore a Q Anon shirt to a family get-together purely out of spite.

It just opens up new doors for her to be hateful and attention-needy.
