I can excuse it when people don't know certain things. Like two coworkers got me a coffee much each. I have 10 already accrued through various means, and I only use a few of them as it is. Sure, that is something I'll either have to give to good will or re-gift, but oh well. These people didn't know I have so many already.

My mom got me a set of neck ties, when I have 20 already and only use them maybe twice a year. She then got me two winter coats when she knows I don't need them and won't wear them, because I have a jacket already that is good enough. These are just items that, while I appreciate the thought and effort, are immediately just going to be returned without me even trying them on or seeing if I like them.

This topic sounds like ungrateful whining, and it definitely is but I feel like most of the stuff I have but don't use are just christmas gifts i've gotten through the years because people need to get somebody something...it's rather annoying. I didn't really ask for much this year...because I don't need much that I can't buy already. But you still end up with a pile of gifts anyways you don't want or need that just kinda sit there unless you re-gift or go to good will.

I've been experiencing this a lot lately. Last year I got a 32GB SD card standard size, not micro (none of my devices use standard size and my micro cards are much higher capacity). Today I got a fourth power bank/portable charger.

Now that is just wasteful, Shadow. What can be returned will be returned(so the person who bought it can get their money back, not I), some things, like the cheese serving tray my sister got me, will probably just sit in a cupboard never to be used....I would love to just give it to good will, but then when they come back to visit, is the cheese tray going to be some stupid thing? I like fancy cheese, but I functionally don't need a cheese tray because I have plates, and I haven't served up a variety of cheese at a dinner or party ever in my life. Do I keep it, in case they visit again and want to make up a cheese platter? Do I give it to good will to reduce clutter around here at the risk of it being "a thing"?

Oh, cheese platters are mostly for when you have people over or something where you need a grazing table.
It feeds people and gives them something to talk about.

The thing is, I've never used a cheese platter in my life. We never have parties here. Hell, while i am a fancy cheese fan, there have been so many blocks of cheese i've eaten all by myself biting into the full block until it was polished off.

Though, thinking about it more, this cheese tray could be used for other things. It is a nice tray....I just need to get rid of something we already have like it because we have too little room for all the stuff in this house.
