An already registered salvaged car? Its already registered in california, but i only have the temporary dealer plates. The car is a 2020 nissan sentra. I also heard that cars less than 4 years old dont need smog checks yet

From what I read, the brake and light inspection needs to be done before you can register it. If it's specifically registered as a salvage vehicle, it should be good to go. YMMV.

So the inspection is for the initial registration? As in the registration needed for it to even be street legal?

It needs to be reinspected and reregistered if it was totalled after the initial inspection. I'm assuming, but do not know for certainty, that this has been done in this specific case.
