From an ecological perspective, if an animal is found basically everywhere, then it just disappearing from the world would typically be catastrophic. With the caveat that we're talking about its endemic range. Rats eat a lot of stuff that would otherwise decompose and spread disease. I've owned many different kinds of pets, and generally I only like dogs and cats. But rats are by far and away the best non traditional pets I've ever owned, and it's not even close. They are so chill, so friendly and so eager to have you around.
