Even over games that you would think have more mass appeal especially on the more-casual mobile market such as Mario Kart Tour, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, or Dr. Mario World (that one shut down, even). There was also Super Mario Run, but since you had to actually pay for the full game--in exchange, there were no microtransactions--most mobile gamers bawked at this deal.

I guess pandering hard to the waifu-loving otakus really helps.
Still, pretty impressive for a series that only a few years prior was in legit danger of being shelved indefinitely.

(I know someone might bring up Pokemon GO, but that isn't considered a Nintendo venture; that's on The Pokemon Company and isn't counted among Nintendo's reporting.)

The game is barely a shell of a Fire Emblem game. Its draw truly is trying to collect all the little waifus.

Ehhh, you'd be surprised. Its skill system has evolved to the point where it gets seriously complicated.

It does still show its gacha side with small maps and some big balance issues, but at this point in the game, there's enough math and reading involved in the whole thing that the matches are a lot more complex than you'd ever really expect. Especially with the addition of real-time PVP into the mix.

with same metrics, then the most successful Final Fantasy game is a mobile game too.

Never underestimate the power of waifus.
