I played it a bit at a friend's house a long time ago, but I never actually played it from beginning to end before. I got the raft and beat the Kraken. I'm now farming that desert area to the east to get as many of my characters to level 20 as I can. I got the main character, the phoenix, and the rat dude to level 20 and promoted their classes.

He can't equip his dagger any more now that he's promoted. Does he use different weapons now, or is he strictly hand-to-hand now?

He uses swords now.

Does it have a turbo button? These old guys are not playable without turbo buttons.

Yep, Slade is now hitting for about 23 non-crit lol. But he gets no experience on these desert trash mobs, so I'm trying to level up the healer, the mage, and hairy dude, etc. by letting them get the kills.

that was a sweet game. Sega should bring that back.

i rented that a few times as a kid. i liked it but never had it long enough to beat it and whenever i rented it again, someone had trampled over my old save. 90s kids will remember.

It's included in the SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics collection on Steam for dirt cheap. I forgot what I paid for it, but it wasn't much lol.

also i always thought it was funny his unpromoted class read as PHNK, and it's only when you promote him is it PHNX. like, what, Phoenik?

Out of curiosity... have you already promoted Sarah/Chester/Jaha/Kazin? Because they have alternate classes they can change into using certain special items.

Mind you, there's another set of characters who can use those same items, so it's not a big deal if you promoted those four already. Though Kazin would benefit from his alternate class the most (better spell selection) and in Sarah's case you can find *two* of her special item so you can give her and the other character the same alternate class (though the other character will have to wait longer before being promoted).

There's also another couple (literally) who get access to an alternate class change of their own, but I don't think you've met the boyfriend yet.

Sarah is definitely better as the alternative class imo. She still heals and becomes a great fighter

Cool, thanks. I haven't promoted Sarah, Chester, Jaha, or Kazin yet. I've only promoted the main character, Slade, Phoenix, and that bird dude.

hey I just started this the other day even though I've had it forever. I loved the first game, played it a ton when I was a kid.

I like Gerhalt.

You are aware there are special promotion items?

Arguably one could say all the alternate class options are best used on your buddies from Granseal as Master Monk/Pegasus Knight/Baron/Sorcerer all have benefits over the standard Vicar/Paladin/Gladiator/Wizard.

I just didn't want TC to think he messed up by not going that route because there's another Priest/Knight (2)/Warrior/Mage who can use the items too.

Of course, he needs to find the items in the first place. None of them are permanently missable, but a couple are ridiculously well hidden.
