***SPOILERS for the MCU in full***

If Disney is unwilling to let characters change actors between movies, then that means we're looking at an "everyone dies in the end" approach to storytelling. Hell, most of the good superhero characters are dead already.

I'd much rather there come a day when Thor or Spider-Man look different than to have the studio say, "Oh, they're dead. But don't worry -- we have other characters to succeed them."

They've already had to recast Hulk and War Machine and the family of Chadwick Boseman is asking for Black Panther to be recast. If that breaks your suspension of disbelief, I'm sorry. It's not worth it to have every superhero end up like Iron Man or Black Widow.

Let the characters die.
Then after some movies, go to another dimension and pick up another version of them.

It's fine to let a hero retire or die. Do you really want them to every 10-15 years recast every hero?

Recasting is fine at times but we don't need to desperately recast everytime an actor wants out or the story concludes It's okay to let a hero's story end. Whether they die or finally rest, or pass the mantle to another character as opposed to swapping in a new dude to pass off as the guy who left.

this. id much rather have a continually changing universe where some characters go and other new characters come in than have the same 15 superheroes forever

One of the issues with comics from DC and Marvel is that they don't allow the heroes to die/retire. It creates a situation where the "status quo is King" and there's never any real progression.

This.

One of my biggest issues with the MCU is that there's never any real stakes.

Yeah. If we keep clinging to the same heroes forever it doesn't leave room for new heroes. They can only make so many movies and shows a year. And too much recasting will just feel bizzare and inevitably will have some wrong choices of actor made. It's a tool to be used sparingly.

These movies seem to progress in real time. I don't want a 50 year old spiderman. Just kill him and let someone else so it.

They can always use dimensional timey wimey bs to reset everything if they want to reboot the whole universe.

I mean, 3-4 movies, with 2-3 crossevers seems about right for any specific character. Recasting is just keeping that same character around for nothing when succession would bring a different character and change things up.

They don't have to die. Just retire them and then make a big deal by bringing them back for a cameo here and there.

And ya, I say let characters die if we are going to keep with this movie timeline progression thing.

It opens the door to new heroes. It also puts more stakes to the story IMO. Like why should I care Iron Man died if the story is just going to pull a DragonBall and bring him back, but with a new measure.

There's plenty of Marvel heroes to use that isn't in the MCU yet.

I'm all for some characters dying. That keeps the danger real and the drama high. But if a heroic death at a young age is a foregone conclusion for every character, there's no real reason to keep watching. It's treating characters like toys who are discontinued once the next wave arrives. And that's what bankrupted the studio that made Transformers. It's also why Disney's Star Wars tanked.

At some point, there has to be that emotional connection to a character who has been there and will be there. If every character is going to be wiped out once their actor decides he or she does not wish to spend the rest of their career wearing spandex in front of a green screen, then what's even the point?
