Idk, I can't really put my finger on it. Something just feels really dispassionate about it. I think it's the writing. These characters don't feel like they've been living in this world off screen. All the dialogue feels disconnected, like they're reading a script. It's weird that this girl who never left her backcountry village in the first episode seems to know a bit about Witchers, in a world where Witchers are now a rare thing and not really a part of common discussion.

Then again, I'm not the best at critiquing fiction. People are always talking about things as if they pick up on things that I don't really pay attention to or notice when watching movies/TV or reading books.

Could it just be the fact that half the season takes place in the past is throwing you off because you're seeing the characters in different time periods but it's being presented as if it's all continuous up until the twist near the end?

Nah. I haven't got to any time jumps yet on this watch. And they didn't really throw me off much the first time because I had read the books.

I loved season 1. So excited for 2 tomorrow. Prior to seeing 1, I hadnt read any of the books or played any of the games. Since watching I read all the books and am on the midst of a play through of the first game. I really enjoy the world.

What is off is the director is a perv who came up with reasons to see all the actors and actresses nude.

That's not something I'm picking up on. I keep thinking about how well Ciri was cast.

Edit: which is a great thing. After the first 2 books, Ciri is the protagonist of the series, moreso than Geralt, imo.

That's cool. Idk if I could have got into it if the show was my first experience.

That was definitely the right choice when it came to Yennefer. Good heavens, that actress is FINE.

Jesus fuck, Renfri should have nothing to do with "the girl in the woods, find her, she is your destiny" but those were her last words because plot I guess?

Fighting scenes are well done, though.

My biggest issue was with how they portrayed Nilfgaard.

To some extent I also understand what you mean. The acting isn't the best in this show.

I feel like the show does that aspect pretty well, actually. Haven't seen it since it came out, but the first few episodes are mostly self contained short stories right from the first book.

Its main problem was it felt a little low budget, in acting, special effects, and overall "feel". Hopefully they upped things in S2 after S1's success.

My biggest hope in terms of changing the plot is to have Yennifer be a much more active part of the later story. Just from the first season, it seems that is likely to happen. Coming from the games, having Yen spend so much time as a figure or imprisoned was pretty disappointing. I also have a feeling Geralt will be much more relevant to the larger story here for TV.

The show just feels "grey" to me if that makes sense.

Like you can tell everything is a set and it throws me off.
