In what world is that a good idea or makes sense to do for a 15-year-old? The dad bought the gun for his son while the kid was there with him on Black Friday. The mom took him to a shooting range to practice. The kid gets caught searching ammunition on his phone in class the following Monday, and the mom says "you have to learn not to get caught." And then the shooting happens, and the parents are like "surprised Pikachu face."

First of all, why is it a good idea to buy a gun as an early Christmas present for your 15-year-old son? Second, why have these parents been charged with only four counts of involuntary manslaughter and not murder?

Simple as that.

I think they could have stopped the shooting at multiple points. They just kept ignoring very scary signs. They better get slammed hard at the trial

It depends on the maturity of the child, who in this case, wasn't at all. It's a huge responsibility, which many families are capable of handling, but the mom and dad seemed only as mature as the child was.

I got my first gun in second grade. It was .410 shotgun. I learned to shoot with it. It was locked up in a gun cabinet and never out unless it was with parental supervision.

I got my first bb gun in third grade and I could use it alone.

I am from the rural mountains. Guns are normal there. You grow up with family and friends both male and female that hunt. Kids start going with their parents out hunting minus a gun at pretty early ages. A gun is often something kids want because of these experiences. Other families like going to the range. I went with my dad the first time around age 5 or so. You can see why kids raised around this lifestyle might have an interest in guns.

I haven't fired a gun in like 20 years. I don't care to much but I get why others might.

I feel like any kind of argument I make here would just be shrugged off.

Do you want an actual answer or is your mind made up?

Try not to equate those parents with all parents.

Parents who hunt buying their kid a rifle, or parents who just want their kids to develop respect and experience with weapons, just in case.

It can be more than a parent teaching their kids just in case, it could be so their kids can teach their kids just in case.

Theres lots of reasons why. Not everyone wants photo ops with assault rifles and all this stupid shit. There are a lot of low key people out there. Its hard to tell because they do t make the headlines.
