I remember some obsessive fans praising the PS5 having an SSD like it was the biggest advancement in gaming ever.

"it's slightly faster than previous gen PC ssd's because it's soldered on the mainboard and not replaceable, thus another failure point and contributing to the E-Waste problem"

Loading times are entirely dependent on the developer. If a game still takes a long time to load it's shittly optimized.

ROHS was a mistake.

The fact that companies like Apple are able to get away with their anti-right to repair stance, without the EPA suing them into nonexistence is disgusting.

From my experience the loading times have been insanely short. Basically more or less what they showcased.

The load times aren't really the big selling point. The big deal is that developers can design their games without being bottlenecked by a 5400RPM hard drive. They don't need to put in things like corridors purely to hide load times and things like that.

The problem now is most games are still cross-gen, and the silicon shortage has only extended that. It won't be until the PS4 and Xbox One are abandoned that most games will start being designed around the SSD.

Literally every spawn point in Demons Souls takes less than 2 seconds to load up without a hitch so it's a game by game basis, between exclusive PS5 titles and multiplats.

So technically Sony didn't drop the ball. The internal SSD really is that fucking fast.

It was for me, and it still blows my mind 6 months later. No idea what TC's experience is. I get into GoT in like 10 seconds from starting up the disc. Then never have to load again. And that's one the best looking games so far. Borderlands 3 still has to load a lot because they themselves fucked that up. I tried it on ps4 first and it was literally 5 minutes to get to the main menu and 2 minutes to load a map. Now it's at least reasonable

SSD is infinitely better than a standard hard drive. It's not even a valid comparison to make.
