Death Stranding was amazing

Patents are so fuckin dumb. Especially when they're in a space that's suppose to be considered art. I always wonder how much further we'd be in a lot of places, without the ability to make it illegal for others to progress on things.

Right? Hell, if we had this type of patent bullshit back in the 80s we'd only have 1-2 companies able to make RPGs that use a stat based system or level based progression. Maybe even less since WOTC would have beat them to the punch via DND.

Which usually makes it hypocritical as well, because the patents are usually for things that were ideas spawned from building onto someone elses creation. It's just, they decided to be the assholes to gatekeep everything after them.

Yep. Hell, technically speaking the concept of a few branching path things for npc responsiveness are patented but the concepts are ultimately derived from visual novels, which came from choose your own adventure books which date back to the 1970s but the concept itself existed centuries before.

What exactly is a strand type game? All I ever heard about death stranding is it's a walking simulator.

it's basically an asynchronous online multiplayer.

like, you might have a single-player experience, but as long as you're on an online network, you can leave behind items and structures that others can use, and vice versa.

I didn't click on the link in the OP, but going from the title, your experience can affect the worlds of other players (if you take a path, others can see that path and follow it; helps with difficult to traverse areas).

This is like someone patenting a way to paint. Or a way on how to fix a car. Or any new logical system that is created. For whatever may benefit from it.
