I became a supervisor for my organization in mid October. This week we had 3 different firings to accomplish and due to the times they needed to happen I was available for all of them.

I'd never done a firing before this week.

I agreed with all the firings so it wasn't bad in the sense of letting go someone I wanted around but still not something I enjoy.

No they were not performing to our standards. We actually aren't doing well on the employee front and it sucks to lose their labor.

What exactly does that mean? What metrics do you use to measure performance?

I should have long been terminated from my warehouse job from so many unexcused absences but I think the guys in charge of firing people are huge softies.

Eh fair enough. My place (commercial refrigerator manufacturing) is hiring 30-40 people a week company wide (4 facilities within the state of MO) and that's just enough to replace our weekly losses. It's fucking insanity and the company has no clue how to deal with it. They've literally tried everything other than paying people better and treating them better.

just curious, how did you fire them? like what was your wording? did you say "you're fired", or something like "we will have to let you go"? kind of a silly question but that kind of stuff interests me lol.

also did you feel bad about firing them? i feel like i would depending on the reason they were fired. like, if they did something they knew was wrong, then fuck them, but if it's some corporate america bullshit i would feel a little bad.

A letter is drafted by our superiors which we follow. Usually for the three month probationary period type release I tell them that we have a three month probationary period in which we evaluate how well they fit into the program and their performance in that time.

Rather than going hard into what they lack we typically tell them it isn't a good fit and thank them for supporting our youth while they were with us.
