I despise Trump, everything he stands for, and the negative effect he's had on our society. But I would take a Covid-free world at the cost of four more years of him in a heartbeat. Even factoring out the lives lost / ruined as a direct result of the pandemic, its existence proved that there is no floor to how badly Trump can handle a crisis and not only retain his base, but inexplicably further solidify it.

Hell, I even remember saying that all Trump had to do in order to achieve the hat trick of getting the pandemic under control, securing reelection, and making himself an assload of money would be to start marketing Trump masks during the early days of the pandemic. And I would've supported him in this endeavor. But he couldn't even meet the barest minimum requirement of not fucking shit up.

With how stupid this country is, COVID leading to Trump's loss was just a brief speedbump in the right's goal to end our democracy. I've no faith the Dems will retain the House next year; and zero faith they will win in 2024.

I'm going to continue doing my part; my goal is to get more and more people registered to vote and to vote blue down the line.

It's one thing to willingly sacrifice millions that hasn't happened yet, but if it already has happened?.. To just let it be?

I'm torn. I'm lucky to say that covid hasn't taken away family members (but it did take a neighbor away).. But this situation is not much different then a scenario of going back in time to prevent a war where millions died vs not changing anything and dramatically altering history. There's no clear right answer here, especially since it been only 2 years.

That's why I said we were bound to have an outbreak eventually. Not to mention Trump dismantled Obama's medical team that were ready for pandemics, and he didn't take covid seriously, even after he got it to save face. It want until vaccines were being made. The fact that this happened and we learned from it and got vaccines fast can help us fight in the future and be taken more seriously. So it was not in vain.

Hopefully we can dramatically reduce chances of an outbreak next time. The U.S. can if it takes it seriously (like we can't have a president who doesn't take it seriously). But then it comes to other countries as well. Govt of China tried to be hush about it and was trying to silence the scientists and medical groups who talked about it when it broke out. They should be disciplined for it.

We were unprepared as fuck for this. It's a wakeup call. The next pandemic could be far, far worse; and if not, sooner or later one will be - but perhaps now we'll be prepared for it?
