Castiel arguably has some of the wildest character development of any fictional being ever. And he wasn't even planned to be a permanent main character addition to the series, but he ended up being there from Season 4 to Season 15. My man even survived 3 more attempts to be written out of the show. He has incredible staying power. Dude is an angel, but managed to earn the affections of a sexy demon woman just by doing his thing. He tells the rule book to fuck off whenever it gets in the way of what needs to be done. He's done a lot of good and a lot of bad doing that, but respect either way. He's even LGBT-friendly, as he is canonically bisexual, and it feels natural to his character without being in-your-face. Even the actor who plays him, Misha Collins, is a super awesome dude. He founded The non-profit charity movement called Random Acts, which straight up gives money to people who need the funds in order to do nicer things for other people. Castiel is, bar none, my favorite angel character ever conceived, right ahead of Angewomon and that dude from Good Omens.
