What person in their right mind would defend a random business's property? They have insurance and someone can catch the criminals later. It is not your problem and only has the potential to lead to violence and collateral damage.

We aren't superheroes. You're not going to strike fear in the hearts of robbers everywhere when they hear tales. Property crime should not become violent outside of self-defense. Escalation has more potential for immediate harm than long-term help.
