Played the original on steam years ago and loved it. Recently bought the Afterbirth thinking it was a sequel but turns out it was just a remaster with some added bits. Now they've released Repentance which I thought was a proper sequel only to realise again it was just glorified DLC. Literally the same game released three times with minor changes. No wonder game devs don't bother innovating anymore when they can get away with releasing the same game multiple times! I see that Skyrim is also getting it's 9001th release as well. *sigh*.

Except plenty of game devs are definitely innovating and being generous with quality new content.

the nature of isaac is replayability. Adding new content means you can replay the game more while still getting fresh experiences. It lends itself well to DLC as a result because each DLC opens up more new experiences. I guess the problem is that as a new player you don't really get an idea of how much each DLC really adds to the game, since it largely has to be opened up over many playthroughs to see the full extent of it.

Well, for me honestly, I prefer one game get supported for a long time, rather than just getting sequel after sequel where good ideas may or may not be discarded.

Like the Stardew Valley dev's new game, Haunted Chocalatier, about running a chocolate factory. It's a new game, however, it appears so mechanically and artistically like Stardew, I don't know why he didn't just do it as an update to Stardew. But everyone has their reasons, everyone needs something new sometimes.

Still, I really like when a single product gets supported heavily. I like knowing that one game has a lot of value.
