Current Events > whelp, i did it...i ruined thanksgiving dinner

first extended family thanksgiving since the pandemic. both grandparents died in recent years, and with that came the floodgates of hidden family secrets

so at dinner, the hottest topic of conversation was my new condo i just bought. relatives kept asking me questions about it. one cousin said he wanted to come visit. i told him to stop by any time, "even cousin justin stopped by randomly the other day". and my parents where like "what?! why didn't you tell us?!" so i replied "it's just cousin justin, not like it was some secret long lost relative..."

the second i finished that sentence i instantly regretted it. you see, one of the secrets that came out after the death of my parents was that there was indeed another sibling that was born and given up for adoption because my grandparents couldn't afford to raise her. this was old china so the records have gone dead and they have had 0 luck in tracking her down.

suddenly, the mood of the dinner died out. instead of jokes and a light tone, it became super somber. my aunt that was hosting even broke out in tears for a bit at some point.

on the bright side, the ham was fantastic
