Have lived in Texas my whole life. Love the state, but Im getting tired of living in a state represented by asshats like Ted Cruz who dont represent their own constituents.

Am currently here in LA on vacation. Second time Ive been here the last few years. Weather is way better, the food is just as good, its more scenic, and there are hotter women here in California.

Plus everyones moving to Texas, driving up the housing market. Buying a home in Texas is quickly becoming unattainable. Californias losing residents like crazymaybe all those nice SoCal homes will drop in value as everyone leaves the state.

Sure, fires arent much fun to fuck around with. But neither are constant hurricane threats and a shitty power grid ran by dumbasses who dont even care to fix it.

California has earthquakes so thats a thing

I live in southeast Michigan so our weather is 5 seasons(winter, spring, summer, construction and fall). I go hunting in Texas once a year, love it but I wouldnt live there, same with Nebraska, a few days hunting is fun but couldnt live there.

As a Californian, don't. You enjoy your vacation here yes? But you not enjoy your stay. Vacation is fun! Moving here is not the fun.

but its really not more expensive than where I currently live. I live in the inner loop of Houston, and cost of living is getting crazy expensive.

even looking at 1 bedroom rental prices, California isnt any worse than big city Texas prices(which are rising like crazy).

my 1 bedroom apt a mile from downtown Houston just gave me my lease renewal form, and theyre increasing rent TWENTY percent on me if I renew.

Yeah but there's other costs associated with Cali.

Don't get me wrong, me and my lady have been talking about figuring out how we'd relocate to California so I'm with it. You just have to set expectations.

sadly I agree. I know plenty of progressives in Texas, and most of my friends are open minded like me. But, it seems out of state right wing nut jobs are fleeing to Texas because they somehow think its a more free state than theirs lmao

all of the major metroplexes of Texas are already overcrowded too. Austin being the worstbut city growth is absurd. Give it 5 years, and Austin will be no different than Los Angeles in terms of population density. Difference isAustin doesnt even have the infrastructure to handle their population numbers currently.

I love California (I live in Colorado)

Cool people live there (except gross places like Fresno) and it's truly a wonder of the world for nature. The best beaches, the biggest mountains, the dryest deserts, the most amazing forests...

I live in a town people consider "extremely expensive". So get into a smaller place, it's not like milk is $20/gal

As an aside, I think I'm going to move back to Frisco/Dillon/Silverthorne, CO from Washington State soon. Rents are not cheap but it's a place with a lot to do and people are some of the friendliest I've encountered. Also, I miss my friends out that way.

Texas sucks, you should do it if you can lock down a job that pays enough to live in CA.

I took a vacation up in southern Oregon and Northern California and liked it there for the most part though some places seem to be struggling pretty badly. Eureka seemed like a mess especially. Stopped for lunch there and then tried to get air for my tires and every gas stations air pump was ruined because junkies had ripped off the nozzles to use as meth pipes.

Honestly, if you can afford the cost of living then do it...just moved to San Diego a year ago and I highly recommend it.

dont get me wrong. I love Houston. Its the best city in Texas, largely because its diverse and has way less racism than the other major metro areas of the state. Im at the point of if Im gonna live in Texas, itll be Houston or gtfo.

issue is the weather sucks ass for a solid 4-5 months. I love the heat, but that god damn humidity. It just doesnt let up.

That narrative is overblown and the homes will not go down, at least near the cities. Maybe in places like norcal and the central valley but socal and the bay area will never see decreased home demand unless something catastrophic happens.

And concerning earthquakes I've been here for 4 years and haven't felt a single one.

In general as long as you know what you're getting into financially there isn't a lot to hate, at least in San Diego. But I mean, I think the average home price is somewhere in the neighborhood of $850k at the moment. Not sure how that compares to Houston but I assume it's more. I just got my next lease update on my 1200 sqft 2bd2ba apartment and it'll be $3200/mo starting in January, albeit we're a bit on the high side because we're near the beach.

Los Angeles local here. Housing prices here definitely are not going down, if anything, they're going up. If you want to buy a house at a decent price here, you have to move to the middle of nowhere and commute long distance.

For renting though, the upside is that we do have rent control that limits the amount a landlord can increase your rent by. Statewide, a landlord can't increase your rent by more than 10% in a 12 month period. For LA City, the cap is between 3-8%, depending on the rate of inflation (last year, the increase cap was 4% of your rent).

But yeah, we do have earthquakes. Everyone keeps saying that we're overdue for "the big one", but I've been hearing that for 20+ years now. Mostly they are small and over in a few seconds. So don't freak out too much about those lol.

You haven't felt any of them in the last 4 years? Even if the Rose Canyon Fault line is less active than others, you guys still get earthquakes.

This.

W won Texas by 20%, since then it's trended more and more blue. Trump won it by 5%.

Why do you think the republican majority Texas legislature is passing controversial law after controversial law and making it harder and harder to vote? Because they can read trends too.
