Lets say there is a hypothetical situation where two people get into an argument in public. Person A has his mask on. Person B also has his mask on, w/e.

During the argument, Person B gets heated to the point where they pull the mask from Person A's face

If Person A decides to physically retaliate and get into a fight with Person B by punching them in the face or kicking their ass, would Person A likely go to jail or have to deal with a court case?

If you pull my mask off, it would be very painful.

In my experience police just decide whatever dumb shit they want on a whim at the scene and there are no rules, so I dont know what would happen but if someone touches my face aggressively without my permission theyre catching hands.

Generally speaking I believe them removing your mask, or any of your clothing without permission, counts as assault.
That said in today's climate I have personally lost all faith in the police and wouldn't trust them.

Yea I was gonna say I would assume pulling off someone's mask is assault. I don't know how that factors into self-defense if you punch them though. Maybe a perceived threat?

sounds like an aggressive proposition so I'd say yes prepare to defend yourself. I wouldn't pummel them on the spot but I'd push them away. If they come at you again from there then go for it.
