I sold it online I wont say where just to keep it confidential as possible.

but I got a message from the buyer saying that the disc drive doesnt work and that the disc is stuck.

I tested the PS4 before I sold it and I shipped it in its original box. It was my personal PS4 too.

So Now im given the option to accept return or submit a review. What would be the best coarse of action?

this is my first return request and it just happened to be with my PS4 smh!

The buyer also messaged me and it seems that they forced the disc in.

I sold my Xbox to someone on ebay back in like 2003 and they wanted a refund because the games had loading screens

i had it insured by the post office but when I told them that they would just have to ship it they gave up and said forget it

I think maybe they just changed their mind and wanted out of the sale and then gave up when they realized there were steps

I ended submitting it for a review and Ill get a response in about 1-2 days. It just seems pretty suspicious that the disc drive doesnt work all of a sudden.

Lets say I do accept the return, do I have to pay for shipping?

This is definitely my last time trying to sell a console online ever. I was initially going to sell it to my local gaming store, but I probably wouldve only got about half or less the price I was asking for.

Did you write down the serial number in case they try to switch a busted one for yours?

What really bothers me is that the buyer forced the disc in. Its 2021 and people still think that forcing disc into disc drives is a good idea. Ive seen multiple post on Reddit before where people ask how to take a disc out after forcing it in.

Like are these people like hmm the drives not taking the disc, but what if I shove it in there by force? Yea that sounds about right. lol

So I looked up how to replace the PS4 disc drive and it doesnt look too hard. Itll just cost me about 50$-80$ depending on the drive I buy.

Some people will make up stupid excuses to try for refunds. Sadly, sometimes there are legit issues that end up sounding like a stupid claim.

Here's what you will QUICKLY learn about eBay. The buyer is ALWAYS right, no matter the case. They do not care what you (the seller) say about it, because they will side with the buyer every time. If they buyer submits for a return, your best course of action is to just accept (you WILL have to pay return shipping) and take the loss. This is the eBay way. Also, it doesn't matter if you sell it "as is",..eBay doesn't care.

Wow! I never thought of that being a possibility. Like probably they wanted a free disc drive for their console, swapped it out with mine and now want a refund because the drive isnt working.

That would be some big brain levels of scum for real.

Your comment also made me look up the buyers history and it looks like theyve sold numerous PS4s recently and they have some listed currently as well. Theyve also scalped a couple of PS5s. Its funny because they told me that this was for a birthday present, but then why not just give the birthday person one of the consoles in stock as a gift instead?

Im currently still awaiting word from the site about my submitted review though, but now Im wondering what if thats really a possibility of what went down.

Can you use that information to help with your defense against their claim?

Update: the site sided with the buyer.

They said that I didnt provide any proof that the disc drive was working when I listed it. Which is is fucking ridiculous because I cant post videos for the listings, I can only post pictures. So how the hell am I supposed to prove that a disc drive is working with just pictures?!

Also I have a theory that the buyer purposely sabatoged my console since my listing was very competitive in terms of pricing and I bundled it with extra games and controllers. I was asking for about the same price other listings were asking for, but with a lot less than what I was offering.

So my guess is that this buyer didnt like that I was taking away potential buyers from him because he has multiple gaming console bundles up for sale and is asking for about 100$ more than what I was.

This buyer is currently scalping 2 PS5s for about 1,500$, hes got a couple of PS4, PS3, Xbox, Nintendo bundles up for sale. So I dont buy his it was meant as a birthday present story one bit. Seeing that he has all of these consoles in stock. What makes my PS4 bundle so special?

Very frustrating.

The Seller will be forced to pay the return shipping and ALSO refund the buyer. As I stated in my previous post...It does NOT matter to eBay, the BUYER IS ALWAYS RIGHT and the SELLER WILL ALWAYS LOSE. I've been running an eBay store since 2007,....the buyer NEVER loses. It sucks, but it's part of the deal when dealing with eBay.
