stick to the outer suburbs and you can find some great, affordable locations in any state.

You're gonna need to be more specific about your criteria besides "not a red state" and "lower cost of living" if you want quality suggestions.

Not NJ. It's pretty great, except for the property tax. You'd have to go live out in the sticks for anything considered affordable by most other states.

New Mexico is cheap + liberal, and way prettier than people think, it's kind of Colorado lite

Lower cost+blue exists in Colorado but only in small towns

Salt lake city is a weird mix of lots of super liberals surrounded on all sides by religious extremism

Missoula Montana is an awesome town, but isolated

I think Reno is pretty blue? Also cheap and very close to beautiful Tahoe

None of the major cities in Colorado are cheap, theyre the most expensive place to live in the mountain west outside of ski resort towns

First of all housing is fucked right now in general.

Secondly TC never said anything about cities. You can live in BFE for really cheap and Colorado has a lot of BFE.

NJ is saturated by racists, no matter what the political landscape is.

You sure? Cali would be my top choice if cost wasn't a concern, so I'd do that if possible.

I'd want easy access to a city (don't necessarily have to live IN the city), plenty of job opportunities, diverse population and a place that doesn't get too hot.

Also legal weed.

I actually lived most of my life in Jersey (born in NY, raised in NJ). I miss it, but I wouldn't necessarily go back to live there lol.

not 100%, but "outer suburbs" probably means something different depending on the city. i'd imagine it's quite a bit outside downtown for cities along the california coast.

Las Vegas. It doesn't feel "liberal", theres a fair share of rednecks and Trumpers, but if you hang out in the summerlin area you're mostly around young liberals. Its a fun area to be. Cost of living is great for now, but its been escalating quickly. No state income tax.

My boss is from Vegas and it's not how I'd imagined it. Lots of athletes running around since you can train all year, and world class rock climbing right in town. There's even a decent ski area only 45 minutes away, as the city is surrounded by mountains. Good trails and hip upcoming neighborhoods...

Also the tweaker trump neighborhoods but it's a big city

I lived there for 3 years, I loved living there. I lived off 215 in spring valley area. Off the strip, on the west side of town, theres tons of great food, tons of things to do. People are nice. The city has a nice vibe to it. Summerlin and red rock was alot of fun. Tivoli village was nice. And it wasn't bad at all going to the strip. The traffic moves along nicely. I always found that I was able to get in and out fairly easily. Mr Charleston is great for hiking. You can potential do Zion in a day trip, I have friends that have done that. Leave at 6 am, get there 9am, hike all day, eat, leave at 9pm, home by midnight.

North of summerlin parkway is ghetto, but there are some cheap nice neighborhoods too. If I'm moving there permanently, I'd definitely stay in summerlin.
