Idk what living expenses in a city is like. But I feel like advocating $10 min wage would be easier than $15. $15 seems like a long shot

I look at the places around here that are hiring. They all seem to be hiring over $10 that are advertising. I guess the places that aren't don't advertise their wage. But it's clear where you would want to apply.

A national minimum of 15 would barely close the gap unless you forced businesses to keep their prices fixed as they are right now.

Why don't we just literally make it $20? You see Republicans say "what do you want minimum wage to be, $20?!" like it's outlandish. Except it isn't. Make it happen.

Who doesn't create $20 of value in an hour? Fast food workers are making like $80 of food an hour.

Just have the government be the only company and then you wont have an issue with the minimum wage. You cant close the government due to lost production and all the money will be enclosed in the unisystem. That way you can give everyone a fair wage.

You want everything government controlled? Wouldn't it be better to have UBI, and people can optionally work a job?

There is an enormous difference in the cost of living from state to state. $15 an hour isn't enough if you live in California, Boston, Seattle, etc. but in fly over country it's decent money, especially for the shitty jobs that pay minimum wage.

I'm pretty sure people oppose UBI because they say that's everyone living off the government and stealing our tax money.

Even with 16 an hour you could not save even a couple hundred dollars unless you were using a food bank. Then there's consideration for transportation. I guess if you live in a room, you could save a little bit more. Here in Seattle. A room could be found at 650. But it's like Harry Potter closet size.

I remember when I lived in a room. I could save about half a months worth. Now that I'm living in a cheap apartment. Most of my check goes away to that, car, and food.

Abolish minimum wage. Get rid of it. When you set a minimum wage you are giving companies an excuse to pay people bare minimum. People dont want government control. Fine.

Get rid of minimum wage and let the market decide. We saw last year that minimum wage jobs had to significantly raise wages to keep staff. That was with no change to minimum wage laws. Let shitty businesses die when they cant afford to keep workers.

around here with the rents. need closer to 20-25$ per hour to at least have a 1 bedroom apartment while having things (not fancy stuff).

i'm aware in southern oregon nearby eugene or springfield the rent is at least 25-30% cheaper.
(higher rate of shit going down however).

this is only fine when there is a sufficient social safety net that it's the businesses that die, and not the people

because otherwise it becomes a waiting game, and only one side can secure a loan to keep the lights on

minimum wage has been government's attempt to say "how about we pre-emptively determine the outcome of that and nobody dies?"

but yeah i'm fine with casualties so long as they're concentrated all on the side of employers

Yeah I dont think these businesses are as powerful as we think. Reddit has been destroying Wall Street and people know the power of the collective now.

At least personally Ill never forget this time when businesses showed they really could have paid more this entire time. We really could have worked from home this entire time. This is only the beginning.

The Electronic parts stuff, and the outdoor stuff. It would have been such a fun store.

That wasn't really viable until 2005 or so. Maybe 1995, or 1985 in fringe cases.

minwage is approximately $11 USD in my province. It ranges from 9-11 USD across the country.

15 CAD is not enough to support oneself while worknig 40 hours a week. especially since most minwage jobs do not offer any benefits, so all dental/optometry work is paid out of pocket, which can be thousands of dollars a year
