They aren't as good as the Lord of the Rings but they are decent fantasy movies. They are nowhere near as horrible as the star wars prequels. People often compare them because they are both prequel trilogies. I enjoyed The Hobbit. I did not enjoy the Star Wars prequels

First movie is pretty good, second is decent, third is irredeemable shit that's far worse than Attack of the Clones.

They are okay. The scenes that are actually adapting book scenes, generally, are well done. The cast, for the most part, is really good. Martin Freeman is the perfect Bilbo.

I showed a girl the entire LotR film series, starting her with the Hobbit. But a fan edit, that takes the 3 films, and makes them into one four hour film. I showed her that, and then the extended Lord of the Rings trilogy. She love the entire experience.

I think Hobbit is already okay, but when you cut out the bullshit and cut it into one movie, it's a really good single film.

I feel like stretching it to a trilogy was a bad move, and some of the stuff like Legolas and the elf chick/dwarf relationship also just contributed to the useless padding.

The Hobbit has a different tone to LotR, but this production team was hellbent on recreating the same feeling without stopping to think about how that would change the narrative.

The barrel scene feels like it was ripped straight out of capeshit

I'm still baffled by the best parts of the first movie being the parts people complained about. "The party goes on too long". What, you mean the bit that's most accurate to the book? I think the reaction to that is why 2 and 3 ended up having so much boring action guff that was clearly made in a rush with bad CGI.

Three films could have been filled out just fine with sections from the book and appendixes that were actually fleshed out. Instead we got sections from the book completely rushed through (That were at beorns house for like 4 minutes wtf that was my favourite part of the book) and 45 minute action scenes that weren't even alluded to in the books.

They were ok but it was so blatantly stretched out to maximize profits that as a finished product, it just looked like they tried too hard to make it into LOTR.

No, they were terrible. They decided to make them a bad copy of the LOTR movies in tone when that wasn't the Hobbit at all and the padding to stretch them to 3 movies was absolutely ridiculous.

I honestly think the second and third movie are both pretty much unwatchable. The first movie has some moments I enjoyed.

They're packed with so much filler and just awful CGI in every scene. Also they somehow manage to be tediously boring despite all the flashy shit happening on screen all the time.

Thinking about how there's footage of Billy Connolly in full makeup for his part of that dwarf king, but in the final movie his character is just blurry CGI that looks worse than a mobile phone game trailer from 2013.

I'm opposed to the movies because they took a children's book and turned it into three fucking 3-hour movies. Fuck you, Peter Jackson.

I thought the costumes/CGI looked like shit.

Which was a shame because, especially for its time, the LOTRs costumes/sets/effects were amazing and still hold up.

That 48 FPS thing was a poor choice as well.

the effects were good. miles better then the rest in the movies. it was obvious they sunk their CGI budget into it.
