Given that we've officially gotten to the part of the story where the supernova's are starting to show off awakenings, I think Luffy will get his right at the end of his fight with Kaido.

I think Luffy will awaken his devil fruit right as he's about to either win or lose against Kaido. Either that, or just or towards the end of the fight, probably when either Kaido drops Onigashima, or his clouds give out. (Or start noticeably giving out and onigashima starts falling)

I think in that moment Luffy will awaken his Devil Fruit right on time to save it by either turning some part of it, his allies, into rubber or even somehow summoning rubber to save them. Either that or maybe even turning Kaido and or Momo's clouds into rubber enough to keep it above ground enough
