Asian Lady Beetles. They are swarming like crazy right now and trying to get into the house. And these little buggers BITE! If you squish them they release a foul-smelling yellow liquid that can stain walls or fabric and they can squeeze through even the tiniest cracks around window frames and doors.

I sprayed the front door and the inside of the door jamb with permethrin and now there's a pile of these dead bastards all over the steps outside. But they still keep coming.

Gross. They sound terrible.

Even regular ladybugs charge around eating anything they can fit in their mouth parts. Mostly other bugs.

I have a few coming in my house now: they flock indoors when it gets cold. I kill two per day over the winter on the worst years.

I used to give them ladybug courtesy and throw them outside. Then one bit me. I am no longer courteous.

They do eat aphids, but they also outcompete with and sometimes even prey on native ladybugs. It also carries a parasite that it is immune to but which can infect and kill other species.

The problem is that most control methods such as pesticides can affect native species. They do have certain traits such as aggregation and pheremones that can be used to trap them without harming other ladybugs. They are also investigating a sexually transmitted disease that would only affect the one species.

Well...Technically speaking, they're in the same family as ladybugs, just a different genus. So they aren't fake ladybugs -- they're just a different type of ladybug (depending on your definition of "ladybug" and whether you're referring to the single insect you're familiar with or all encompassing species...)
