I hit burnout halfway through that palace. I really want to go back and finish the game but it's soo long. After a couple years, I decided that Royal would be decent purchase since at this point, I barely remember what is going on so it's worth to restart. I beat the first dungeon in Royal and then stopped playing in favor of beating shorter games first to clear out my backlog faster. >_> Bad move lol. If they ever do a PC port though, I'll definitely buy Royal again. I'm much more likely to finish games on my PC.

Eh, the game is long, but not that hard to follow if you jump back in imo. You can really read a fairly short summary and get back into things imo.

Ok I have a question now as I'm working through the second palace

"after school" and "evening" are two chunks of time.

i wanted to use "after school" to make lockpicks and "evening" to train. however, when i went inside cafe leblanc, it moved me from "After school" to "evening" so i only had time for one activity

I literally didn't finish Bravely Default because they were like "Hey, you know all those bosses you just fought? Go do it again."

For the record, the proper way is to skip all the sidequests except for the one at the sage's place in chapter 6. Every boss from then is different. You'll still have to fight the 4 temple guardians each time but they're cake.
