Prior to this she was very much an "arthouse" filmmaker Probably the most well-known thing she's done was Nomadland, which won a few Academy Awards. Her other films are a bit more obscure but still damn good, so it's disappointing that this appears to be so mediocre. Disney will hire smaller directors that will get excited to work on a huge ass film and they dont have to pay them as much, and most importantly theyll stick with making whatever kind of Marvel film Disney wants, which is usually the same formula over & over.
