Specifically those that are considered underpowered, like the monk, ranger, and maybe fighter.

Would it be unbalanced to give, say, all fighters the abilities of the Champion subclass, but 2 levels later?

Same with Open Hand for monk and hunter for ranger.

*shrug* 5e kind of sucks and I don't really have any ways to fix it short of rebuilding it from the ground up.

You want a class to get 2 subclasses? Yeah that would be unbalanced.

If you feel a subclass is too weak, try buffing their subclass features instead.

You might be better off crafting custom magical items that boost certain class effects that are underpowered. That way you can let your players have their class fantasy without having to pull stuff in from other classes.

Yeah, that.

A suspiciously specific magic item will work better than trying to add new shit.

Fighter doesn't need anything else lol. Its already extremely strong. People complain about it being basic but its sub classes already let you do a good variety of things and its standard features are all solid across the board. If anything, it would benefit from Action Surge being accessed at level 4 instead of 2 to make its best feature less easily gained in multi-classing.

Monk as a whole is ok but it desperately needs some of its subclasses tweaked. Monk's basic features make it an extremely defensive oriented class with its offensive options in subclasses and most of those are very... lacking... compared to other melee classes. Like everything in Open Hand is pretty terrible. 3rd level feature only comes into play if you burn a ki point and does not scale.6th level feature is about the same as Fighter's Second WInd ability... that Fighter gets way sooner. 11th level feature is extremely meh, and its capstone (both for Monk in general at level 20 and at level 17 for Open Hand) is terrible. Quivering Palm allows for a Con saving throw to only take 10d10 necrotic damage, so its literally a crapshoot on whether it will be useful or not. The problem in general is that anything Monk can do can be done better by another class and just adding more stuff in won't really fix that. They need more unique effects or for their unique effects to be worthwhile.

Ranger is fine as long as you use variant ranger lol. Basic ranger is beyond redemption

If you're the DM, go for it, don't let things like the rulebook dictate if you want to OPify your players.

If you aren't the DM, we aren't who you should be asking.
