People are attacking TC but the world is pretty fucked all things considered, plenty of reason to be pessimistic. That said I would try to be more optimistic if you can, TC. Negativity is heavy, drains your energy. Start small, get a notebook. Write a positive thing in it each day.

I can't. I'm in a terrible living situation that I can't escape, I cannot afford any type of healthcare or therapy, my finances are getting worse and I'm sinking deeper into debt, I can't find a job, my own mother basically told me to kill myself, the last friend I had told me to kill myself, and I can't even enjoy what little things I used to enjoy.

I've unironically looked into things like selling plasma or even a kidney, just so I could have enough money to "start". Even then, I'd be "starting" my life way too late, to the point where it won't ever be normal or happy.

In America, we have:

• an army of racist cops
• intense political division
• a pandemic (and people who seem hellbent on aiding the virus)
• bloodsucking corporate masters who play parties against one another like pawns
• trillions in debt and a lower standard of living as the result of a losing war

I try to be optimistic but I don't see anything getting better in the next twenty years or more. I'll be an old man by then. But who knows? Maybe I'll be a rich old man with a wife half his age. So that's something to be optimistic about.

These are honestly the best times to live in IMO because you can easily go back and look at all previously recorded material any time you want.

I wouldnt even want to have lived before every house had electricity and running water.

Its not without its share of world-shattering problems that makes my blood boil at even the mere very thought of their mucking about my existence on this earth. But! My life is pretty fucking awesome. Do you not feel the same? Im sure some of you do.

On a global scale, there's the threat of climate change.

In order to stop climate change, we must use alternatives to fossil fuels. In order to cease using fossil fuels, we must disregard the patents on clean energy souces that are owned by fossil fuel companies. If we disregard those patents, it will be taken as an act of western imperialism and we will find ourselves at war with Middle Eastern countries which supply oil. And even if we get past them, we still have to police the rest of the world -- like preventing China from using fossil fuels.

So, there you have it. The only way to escape imminent death from a depleted ozone layer is to win World War 3. I gotta say, for what it's worth, I really hope climate change deniers are right. It's our only chance at survival as a species.

Like don't get me wrong the world largely sucks and I'm not sure it is truly ever going to be better, but I'm going to try and stay positive at least in my own life. Because if the world is going to suck regardless then I'm at least going to try to get what happiness I can rather than wallow in misery.

I feel like optimistic/pessimistic, is not context dependent, it's person dependent. I can be depressed about the state of things, while still being optimistic. To me, pessimism is a self-defeating mindset. Like, what's the point?

Ok so you're projecting the feelings you have about your personal situation onto the country at large. That makes a lot more sense and I'm very sorry you're dealing with all that.

Unless you're wealthy, it's becoming increasingly difficult to attain any semblance of what was once deemed a normal life. It's borderline impossible to own a home, the prices of everything are going up, people don't have access to healthcare or insurance, democracy is being eroded due to greed and stupidity, and there's practically no innovation anymore. Every new piece of tech these days is just a fancier smartphone or some prettier way to look at expensive streaming content.

I think it's more a case of people waking up and not being oblivious to things anymore.
