I mean, initially, since some things were able to pick up due to home releases, word of mouth, and other factors that might not have been foreseen by the creators.

topic was inspired by Villeneuve saying that Blade Runner 2049 performed so poorly, he was worried it might damage his career.

The Thing

With the benefit of hindsight, it's a nondescript title.

"The Thing from Another World" lets you know it's a movie about an alien. "The Thing" could be anything. John Carpenter also expressed disappointment in the movie's poster. It's just a slasher movie villain with his face obscured.

BR 2049 made the money it did because the movie was so good, but I dont know why anyone would bank on a niche 40 year old franchise making big money.

Treasure Planet was a massive flop, and I will never forgive the world for that.

John Carpenter has a certain style, man. If youre not in the mood for it, it looks exactly like what its meant to be... a joke.

Mixed with a slow burn like the beginning of The Thing? Oh man. We have Hot water. Borrrrrring and whats the payoff? If youre an anti-cerebral nihilist, this is either the perfect place for you.... or stay far, far away. The original Halloween didnt have a great identity until 2018 tbh. Rob Zombies first go round didnt suck, but it also misses the bizarre point of the original. Same thing is happening here.

Criticizing the characters for being caricatures without realizing that this is the point of Every slasher movie is a BAD look
