It's just a board, you can post about anything religion-related. Make a new topic, or join in an existing discussion. We don't bite, and we only have, like, three trolls.

Surprised there'd be so many believers on here. The idea of god is narcissistic, selfish, isolated and cruel. It's an idea formed from isolation and lack of understanding. Once you've got access to the internet and all the information available worldwide, it makes no sense to continue to believe in god.

By "the idea of god", do you mean "god, as described in the bible is..." or "the concept of a god is..."?

Perhaps you might be trying to avoid saying that "god is...", because such a statement might not make total sense if you don't believe that such a being exists.

@Smackems

It started as a one off joke I made about how the universe was created by some Godlike entity by mere happenstance. Like how our bodies are homes to entire ecosystems without us even engaging, caring about, or acknowledging that fact. Then I thought a little bit harder about this silly shit and conjured up this idea that this entity is just an unintelligent (or at the very least has no reason to be tied to human standards such as intelligence or awareness) thing unknowingly creating entire universes.

It makes about as much sense as any actual religion I've seen, but is at least way more interesting and wondrous to me than the idea of a God(s) who intentionally created everything or care about what we do in any capacity. It's far more interesting to think the universe is an incomprehensible beings accident that it doesn't know or give a damn about on account of it not having any reason to.

tl;dr - I got bored and imagined an interdimensional jellyfish that accidentally created our universe and now think it's such a fun idea that I'm choosing to "believe" it. Its got no divinity, no benevolence, and no malice, it just is.

You know there's more than one god right? Don't you think it a bit foolish to only talk about your god as if all the other ones are wrong or false?

Yeah, that's fun to think about. It's fascinating to think about why the universe exists, and why we exist. I think it's just as likely that aliens had some part in our being here or our evolution. There's lots of fascinating ideas out there to ponder.

However, the idea of the some almighty being put us here to torture all of humanity for all of eternity and demanding we worship him and live in fear all our lives and that this life is some cruel test to get into heaven is absolutely fucking sick and disgusting. It's a twisted, demented concept. There's literally millions of people in this life who suffer greatly to ensure they get into heaven.

I don't believe in any god. I'm talking about the concept of god, ie: the idea some people came up with to teach morality and keep people in line. I think god is fiction, just like star wars or thomas the tank engine.

Thank you, that's what I was asking. I would agree that if some people just came up with a god in order to teach people morality and keep them in line, then that would be abhorrent.

Why do you think that so many cultures around the world all had similar ideas to create their own gods?
