Taiwan has urged Beijing to stop "irresponsible provocative actions" after 56 Chinese warplanes entered its air defence zone on Monday - the largest ever reported incursion by China's air force.

The island has been complaining for more than a year about China's air force repeatedly flying nearby.

Since Friday, China has sent almost 150 aircraft into Taiwan's defence zone.

The latest mission included 34 J-16 fighters and 12 nuclear-capable H-6 bombers, which all flew in an area near the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands, according to a map provided by the Taiwanese government.

Four more Chinese fighters were spotted late on Monday, taking the total to 56 aircraft in one day.

China, of course, blames the US:

"Engaging in Taiwan independence is a dead end. China will take all steps needed and firmly smash any Taiwan independence plots," the ministry said.

"China's determination and will to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity is unwavering."

The US should stop supporting and "inflating" Taiwan separatist forces, it added.

Considering that is where the majority of all semi-conductor chips in the world are manufactured, yes. You think China won't just refuse to sell them to any country that accuses them of war crimes or doesn't bow down to them? They could literally cripple entire countries by not selling them. The UK has even started sending warships over there which they have never done before or haven't in so many decades, I forget which.

What Taiwen really needs to do is let America put a base or joint base on the island with their forces to launch planes from. Any attack from China would be an act of war against America, something they don't want to do as they know we can completely obliterate their navy and air force with ease. Right now they are testing Taiwan and their readiness as their plan is to strike quick to take the island before the US/UK/anyone else can get there to help defend and then just hope we won't bother once it's firmly in Chinese control. Most likely we will be at war with China before the end of next year.

If China wants to actually take Taiwan, their best plan is to be very aggressive towards Taiwan periodically to scare other countries into thinking things might happen so other countries become less dependent on Taiwan. If the major powers in the world no longer need Taiwan, then China would be allowed to take it over without any issue. Right now though, it would be a terrible idea to actually start shit.

I would encourage everyone to watch this video and educate yourselves on Taiwan. Contrary to popular belief, the U.S. doesn't support Taiwanese independence. The reality is that the wording on America's stance is intentionally ambiguous in order to play all sides.

Furthermore, most Taiwanese do not want independence but would rather maintain the status quo. There is even a political party in Taiwan called the Kuomintang who want strong economic ties and engagement with China. Taiwan is not a monolith, so to assume that all Taiwanese people hate China or want to become an independent country is entirely false.

Finally, Taiwanese people are not intimidated by China flying their jets nearby; in fact, it's considered mundane at this point. It's Americans who are the ones making a big deal about it.

But invading Taiwan would be very risky for China in case its defeated, so it will never happen. Same reason USA will never invade communist Cuba.

Not really, Mutually Assured Destruction applies. China has nukes that can reach 90% of the US, and while it doesn't have many, it's building more. A US-China shooting war is 99.9% not happening because that means nuclear armageddon.

The best US can do is support and arm Taiwan resistance.

We're too fat to be drafted. We don't fall for military propaganda anymore. Even if we could beat the enemy, it's not profitable to do so since military contracts ensure that the conflict will be dragged out as long as possible -- until we eventually lose. And most people of fighting age and condition know that, so they won't be taken in by it.

there are 2 sides for this:

in one side , America is VERY good at wars. Its just bad at guerillas because those ones are not a country vs country, army vs army thing.

on the other side we are de-industrialized now thanks to greedy fucks sending plants to China so wed lose long drawn wars. In that sense were pre-world war 2 uk right now to chinas pre-ww2 Germany (militarily speaking, not the bad stuff the Germans did)
