I don't cook
Probably explains things. Most people don't particularly like raw veggies, the trick most people figure out is to prepare them in a way they find appetizing

If you don't like sweet potatoes or corn or any of the other staples even when cooked though, idk what to tell ya

Sorry vegans/herbivores.

When you eat a salad, everything was a living thing there, too.

The lettuce is a living thing, same as trees, root plants, etc.

no. they just react and create vibrations. they aren't experiencing pain, but their bodies are reacting to it and can be sensed by other life forms like animals

tbf for a bigger 'gotcha' i'd go with 'mushrooms are closer to animals' instead of 'plants are alive too!'

but you can eat mushrooms and most plants without killing them. every apple tree supplies an abundance of apples, every year for decades. every chicken supplies two breasts, two wings, two legs, etc., once.
The finality that is death is delicious natural flavouring.

that's just fucked up, idk what to tell you

this probably doesn't apply to you, but most folks season their meat. with plants.
That's also nice but it doesn't really beat the taste of suffering. If they ever make plants that suffer and scream when you bite into them, then I'll be vegan. That's one thing I dislike about meat, I want it cooked but at that point it has stopped screaming.

Mmm I can just imagine it now and it just feels so good. Roast the little ones on the pan and listen to their exquisite screams as the heat sears their insides. Then as you bite into them and feel that nice crunch... The sheer agony they would experience. Delicious and nutritious baby plant tears.

Of course the grown ones would have witnessed this. They probably don't have eyes but I'm sure they can sense it. But not to worry. It'll be their time soon enough. Take your time slicing and dicing them into a beautiful crisp salad. Make sure a few are left barely alive so you get some delicious agony in every bite. You can add dressing if you like but nothing beats natural suffering.

Whenever meat vs. plant diets come up in conversation, meat-eaters tend to be much more obnoxious in my experience. Most vegans I know just mind their own business, and will still eat at restaurants with meat-eaters and order plant-based stuff on the menu, etc. But I've known plenty of meat-eaters who will refuse to eat at vegetarian restaurants, will rub it in everyone's face how much they love steak, and are usually pretty condescending. I've also seen it wrapped up in hyper-nationalism in the US too. Like you can't be a "real American" if you're a vegan. It ends up coming off as insecure.

They don't "feel" anything. They don't have any sensory nerve cells. For someone talking about "dumbing down definitions", it's ironic that you responded the way you did. All plants do is respond to stimuli. These are automatic reactions that have no thought behind them

Reminder for the trolls pretending plants feel pain to support eating meat: more plants and agriculture are used to feed livestock than would be used to support a vegan populace, so if you want to reduce plant suffering vegan is still the best answer

I eat meat and I still think people who like to eat meat for more than just "the taste" are far weirder/more annoying than most vegans.

Like there are people who are like "Even if they made a meat alternative that tasted just like *insert meat* I'd still rather eat the animal". That's nonsense.

To be fair, these things definitely appeal to people who are newly vegan and still want that experience. Vegans aren't a monolith; plenty quit meat but still like the taste and experience of eating meat and want to replicate that.

Yes but that's still not their target audience.

Of course they're not going to complain if people that are already vegan eat those products, but it's targeted at people who are apprehensive about making the switch.
