$50 a year for the entire building, maybe, if they throw out pens after one or two uses and stationary theft is rampant. as opposed to $25 for the cheapest pen one person owns when they own multiple

yeah nah, its not cheaper to buy expensive pens than it is to buy cheap pens

Press too light and it stops writing. Press too hard and it splotches. Runs out of ink faster. Harder to write on non-level surfaces or unusual mediums. Ink dries a little slower so you're more likely to smudge your shit while writing.

It's useless archaic technology with no purpose outside of enthusiast calligraphy or to look pretentious on your desk.

I'd argue that you just need to get used to using one or find one that works better for you, but at least that thought I can understand. Especially if you're not someone who writes a lot. Well it's not zero waste but it's still WAAAAAAAAAAAY less than disposable plastic ball points.

I already posted the pen I use in post #79 which uses the space pen cartridges that are easy to refill / replace with minimal waste and it's super smooth even for casual writing.

Only drawback is can't bring it onto a plane.
