George R.R. Martin is producing an animated short film called Night Of The Cooters, potentially delaying the completion of his next A Song Of Ice And Fire novel from the series that was adapted into Game Of Thrones even further.
Vincent DOnofrio is set to direct and star as the voice of a sheriff in the town of Pachuco, Texas, which becomes the site of a Martian invasion.
Night Of The Cooters is a short story, and our version is going to be a short film, Martin explained (per Deadline). Id guess it will come in somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes, shot with a combination of live action and state-of-the-art animation. If you loved the story, we think you will love our movie.

After the train wreck of the GOT tv show last season hes never finishing the book because it will never be good enough. I think he wants to leave the last book unfinished so when he does he will be lauded as someone who never completed his great work and he remember for that.

I cant really get in the headspace of this guy. He seems lazy as shit which should give him the ability to just halfass the final too books, but he must be so stuck with writers block and high expectations that he doesnt feel the ability to properly live up to them at the same time.

Patrick Rothfuss (author of The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear) has once compared the reason behind the fact he takes so long to write The Doors of Stone to being in a happy relationship, being together with someone, having a good life together, and that eventually other people outside of the relationship start nagging you about when you're gonna have kids. Now you may have kids eventually at some point, but it does eventually put a very stressful amount of pressure on you when people basically keep asking you:
"WHY WON'T YOU FUCK? FOR MEEEEEE?"

I'm pretty sure George Martin feels that pressure x10 at least.

Lmao as if Martin gives a shit. He'll never finish the books, regardless of what we do. He doesn't need to work. If he doesn't get work he'll sit on his throne with his thumb in his bum until he croaks.

He's probably enjoying himself and with HBO fucking up the series, he's now probably scared about where to go differently. Especially where people will be happy.

There's no point in killing the illusion. Maybe the HBO spin-offs end up being really good and brings back crazy hype and he gets back on it. I doubt we'll ever see the last book even if this one came out. So the story is probably never finishing.

My theory is GRRM doesn't have the slightest idea how to end the series either and there are just way too many loose ends he needs to tie up. So instead of funnelling everything together, GRRM is just... not.

Or, his planned ending was the same as the show, but the fan backlash made him completely scrap everything and now he's a decade behind where he would've been.
